As Tokugawa Shogunate was established in Edo in 1603 and many samurai came to live there, sword smiths also gathered in Edo as if they were following samurai, which led to flowering of what is called Kanbun Shinto.
Yamatonokami YASUSADA who is recorded in old book to "have lived in Edo Kanda Shiragane-cho" was born in the 4th year of Genna era (1618). According to recent study, he is considered to be a smith who belonged to the genealogy of Kishu Ishido, came to Edo with his master YASUHIRO around the first year of Keian era (1648) and received the title of Yamatonokami almost around the same time.

This piece of work has typical shape of Kanbun Shinto, which is long and slightly curved and is different in breadth between the base and the tip. Its Jigane is finely dense and shows strong Kane. The pattern of blade is Gunome midare with thick Nie and shows dynamic expression with large difference in breadth. Moreover, although little, Ububa is retained in the base of Habaki, which hands down highly sound shape in our time. In addition, the condition of Nakago is good and is sedate with deep color of rust, which alone sufficiently shows excellent provenance.

Saidan-mei of Yamano-kaemon NAGAHISA, a Shito-ka, is engraved in many of YASUSADA's swords and one of them is engraved with "5 trunks have been cut since the dawn of history", which shows that YASUSADA's swords received popularity truly as "made for warriors".
Furthermore, Okita SOUSHI and Iba HACHIRO, swordsmen at the end of Edo era, used YASUSADA's swords habitually and made the swords' performance known sufficiently as well as their achievement.

This is a creditable super piece of Yamatonokami YASUSADA who had great impact on various subcultures of sword smith in Edo in early period of Kanbun Shinto and won the great confidence of many samurai as well.
